Rent a Podcast Studio in Bali: What to Look For

`Rent a Podcast Studio in Bali: What to Look For — Villo Studio

Video podcasts on Spotify jumped 57% year-over-year in 2022. Creators noticed — and stopped booking flights to London or LA. Bali has quietly built the infrastructure to replace both. The problem now isn’t finding a studio. It’s not booking the wrong one.

We’ve run over 175 podcast sessions in our Canggu studio across 23 months — including a 14-day consecutive block for a creator team recording back-to-back guest episodes. The patterns repeat. So do the mistakes. This is the guide we wish creators had before their first call with us.

Why Bali Is Now a Serious Podcasting Hub

Five years ago, recording in Bali meant a hotel room, a Blue Yeti, and a prayer the gecko stayed quiet. That era is over.

Indonesia launched its Digital Nomad Visa (E33G) in 2023, formally recognizing a remote creator economy that had already been running on the island for a decade. The global podcast market hit $18.52 billion in 2022, forecast to grow at 27.6% CAGR through 2030 (Grand View Research). Active podcasts worldwide have grown from roughly 500,000 in 2018 to over 5 million today. Demand for professional recording space in nomad hubs has caught up to the supply.

Canggu alone hosts at least eight studios with multi-camera setups. Denpasar adds three. Ubud has two. The infrastructure gap closed. A different problem replaced it: choosing well from a crowded shortlist.

Audio-Only vs. Video Podcast — Know Your Format First

Most booking regret starts here. Creators underspecify what they need, then discover the mismatch during setup.

Video capability is no longer an upgrade — it’s a baseline question. But “video capable” means very different things at different price points. Before you email anyone, place your show in one of these four buckets:

  • Solo audio (interview-style or monologue, no guests): One broadcast mic, one acoustically treated room, one operator. No 3-camera rig needed.
  • Multi-guest audio (2–4 people, no video): Individual gain control per mic, headphone monitoring for every guest, isolation between channels.
  • Video-first (YouTube, Spotify Video): Minimum 2 cameras, broadcast lighting, multi-mic, ATEM-style live switching or multi-cam post.
  • Interview hybrid (in-person + remote guest): Everything above, plus reliable Ethernet, Riverside or SquadCast integration, and a return monitor so your remote guest feels present.

Write down which bucket applies before you build your video podcast studio in Bali shortlist. It cuts your call time in half.

What Equipment a Professional Podcast Studio Should Have

Every second studio claims “professional equipment.” The phrase means nothing without brand names. A Sony FX3 and a Canon C70 are different tools for different jobs. An Aputure 600D and a $40 ring light produce different skin tones. If a studio’s website lists no specific gear, they’re either embarrassed by what they have or assume you won’t know the difference. Both are bad signs.

Audio-minimum (any podcast):

  • Broadcast XLR mics — Shure SM7B, Rode PodMic, or equivalent (not USB mics)
  • Dedicated audio interface or mixer — Rodecaster Pro II, Zoom PodTrak, or comparable
  • Individual headphone feeds per guest with volume control
  • Acoustic treatment on at least three walls — corner panels alone don’t count
  • Air conditioning that switches off or runs below 35 dB

Video-production standard (vodcast or YouTube-first):

  • 2–4 cameras at 4K — Sony FX-series or comparable
  • Broadcast lighting — Aputure or Godox SL-series
  • Live multi-cam switching (Blackmagic ATEM Mini Extreme or similar) for same-day delivery
  • Color-calibrated monitors at each operator station
  • A treated set — not a printed bedsheet

One acoustic test worth doing: ask for a raw audio sample recorded in the room. Listen for AC hum, traffic bleed, and reverb tail. A studio that can’t send a sample in 24 hours probably doesn’t have one worth sending.

Where Podcast Studios Are Located in Bali

Location shapes your guest list, your background noise, and your post-shoot logistics — not just your commute.

Canggu and Pererenan

This is where the creator economy lives. Most digital nomads, course creators, and YouTubers running shows from Bali are based within a 15-minute scooter ride. Booking a podcast studio Canggu-side means your guests don’t lose half a day in traffic — a real cost on this island. Villo Studio in Canggu sits 20 minutes from Pererenan beach with parking for six cars, which matters more than it sounds.

Seminyak

Better for brand-led or commercial podcasts where the aesthetic leans polished and the budget supports it. Closer to upscale dining and hotels if you’re flying in international guests. Traffic is heavier than Canggu, especially between 4 and 7 PM.

Ubud

Quieter, greener, slower. Best for retreat-style recordings, wellness podcasts, or week-long blocks where you want to record six episodes without going near a scooter. Equipment standards vary more widely here than on the coast — verify gear lists carefully before booking.

Pricing — Hourly, Day Rate, and Multi-Day Packages

Model Typical Range Best For
Hourly (audio-only) ~$20–30 USD/hr Solo shows, single-guest tests, ad-hoc recordings
Day rate (full video) ~$80–150+ USD/day Single-episode video shoots, sponsor-funded recordings
Multi-day package (3, 5, 14 days) Negotiated block rate Episode batches, season recordings, content sprints

At Villo, flat rates are public: from Rp1.25M ($75) for 1 camera, Rp1.55M ($95) for 2 cameras, Rp1.65M ($100) for 3 cameras. Studio-only rental without an operator runs Rp600k ($36) for a two-hour minimum. Of the 17 studios we’ve benchmarked on the island, nine publish no rates at all — and of those nine, only two have more than 100 Google reviews.

The multi-day math is worth understanding. One creator team booked 14 consecutive days to record a full season with rotating guests — total invoice Rp24.96M (~$1,500). Equivalent single-day bookings would have totaled Rp23.1M. The package wasn’t materially cheaper. What they bought was a guaranteed daily slot, one point of contact for two weeks, and the ability to plan guest logistics without re-confirming availability each morning.

If you’re recording more than five episodes in a quarter, view Villo’s podcast studio packages — we’re one of the few studios on the island that structures multi-day blocks as a standard offering.

Post-Production — Does the Studio Cover It?

Recording is step one of roughly eleven. Most creators discover this the week after their shoot, when the studio hands them seven hours of raw 4K footage and a 27-track audio session — and the editor they hired charges $400 per episode.

Post-production support across Bali studios is inconsistent. Some include basic edit and color in a package. Some offer it as an add-on at $100–$250 per episode. Some don’t touch post at all.

Ask these three questions before you book:

  1. What do I leave with? Raw files only? Synced multi-cam project? Edited master? Vertical clips for social?
  2. What’s the turnaround and revision policy? Five business days is reasonable. Three weeks is a problem. Two revision rounds is standard.
  3. Can you handle thumbnails, chapter markers, and exports for YouTube, Spotify Video, and short-form? Yes collapses three vendors into one. No means plan the extra workflow now.

Villo’s post-production add-ons deliver edited masters in five business days with two revision rounds included. Short-form vertical edits are billed separately.

Bali-Specific Logistics Every Creator Should Know

Bali is not a city. Assumptions that hold in London or Austin don’t always hold here.

  • Internet for remote guests: Fiber is reliable in Canggu and Seminyak. It’s variable in Ubud. Ask the studio for their upload speed and whether they run a backup 4G/5G connection. We run dual ISPs with automatic failover.
  • Power outages: Brief outages happen, especially in rainy season (November–March). A studio without a UPS backup on its recording rig will lose your take mid-sentence.
  • Nyepi (Day of Silence): Once a year — typically March — Bali shuts down completely for 24 hours. No flights, no traffic, no lights. Most studios close for 48 hours around it. Check the date before you book your flights.
  • Peak-season lead time: July–August and December–January are fully booked fast. Reserve at least three weeks ahead if you want a specific slot.
  • Getting your guest there: If they’re flying in and unfamiliar with scooters, send a driver. Twenty minutes of saved stress shows up in their on-camera performance.

FAQ — Podcast Studio Bali

How much does it cost to rent a podcast studio in Bali?
Rates run $20–30 USD/hour for audio-only setups and $80–150+ USD/day for full video production. Multi-day packages are negotiable at most studios but rarely advertised. At Villo, rates start from Rp1.25M (~$75) for a 1-camera session.

Where are most podcast studios located in Bali?
The majority are in Canggu, Pererenan, and Seminyak — the main creative and expat hubs. A smaller number operate in Ubud for quieter, retreat-style work. A few are based in Denpasar for clients prioritizing lower rates over location.

Can I record a video podcast in Bali, or only audio?
Several studios offer full video setups: professional cameras, lighting rigs, multi-camera switching. Confirm specific camera models and lighting brands before booking — “video available” often means one locked-off camera on a tripod.

Do Bali podcast studios provide post-production?
Some do, as add-on packages. Many expect creators to handle post independently. Ask about deliverables, turnaround, and revision policy before you sign anything.

How do I check whether a studio is acoustically sound?
Request a raw audio sample recorded in the room. Listen for AC hum, traffic bleed, and reverb tail. Full-wall treatment matters — corner panels alone don’t fix a room. If the studio owner can quote the room’s RT60 reverberation time, that’s a strong signal they built it intentionally.

What’s the best area in Bali to record a podcast if my guest is flying in?
Canggu or Seminyak. Both are close to Ngurah Rai International Airport and have reliable roads, parking, and good restaurants for a pre-recording meal. Ubud adds 45–75 minutes of driving each way, which adds friction for international guests on tight schedules.

Book the Right Studio, Not the Closest One

The right studio for your show isn’t the cheapest, the prettiest, or the one with the most Instagram followers. It’s the one with your gear, your post-production flow, and a crew that’s recorded your show format dozens of times before.

Planning a single episode, a content sprint, or a full season? Check our podcast studio packages or send a short brief — show format, episode count, target dates. We’ll reply with a quote and a recommended setup within one business day.
